Former A/E Editor Lands Internship With O, Miami

Nicole Del Rio, who served as The Reporter’s arts and entertainment editor and social media director during the 2023-24 school year, landed an internship with O, Miami, a non-profit that bolsters the poetic scene in South Florida with events, projects and publications.

Del Rio, whose internship started on May 31 and will run through Aug. 29, is focused on working with O, Miami’s Greenhouse Fellowship. Her duties include transcribing poems for the archive, assisting with fellowship events and shipping book orders.

The fellowship pairs people ages 18 through 25 with a mentor to work on artistic or writing projects. Projects are showcased at Miami History Fridays, an event that highlights Miami’s art and literary scene.

“Working with O, Miami has made me learn so much about poetry itself and the concept of civic poetry,” Del Rio said.  “Poetry has evolved into something that can bring people together…the people around me inspire me with their creativity.”

The 21-year-old’s internship was made possible through a program at Smith College that provides students with a stipend for unpaid internships with nonprofits or small businesses.

Del Rio earned an associate degree in English from the Honors College in May 2024. She is expected to graduate from Smith College in December of 2026 with a bachelor’s degree in English.
