These Are Your SGA Officers For The 2025-26 School Year

Here are your new Student Government Association leaders for the 2025-26 academic year.

The college-wide virtual elections took place March 17 through March 21 through MDC’s election website.

Elected officers will be inducted on May 21 and serve in their positions through the end of the spring 2026 semester.

Candidates had to have earned a high school diploma or equivalent, be enrolled in at least six credits at their respective campus, have a minimum 2.5 GPA and maintain a clear academic conduct standing.

Each SGA campus president was interviewed for this story via phone or email and a short bio was compiled. 

 

Eduardo J. Padrón Campus

Neira-Pinzón

President: Jean-Pierre Neira-Pinzón

Neira-Pinzón is an economics student in the Honors College. He hopes to diversify student attendance at events and increase the presence of SGA senators on campus.

The 27-year-old, who served as an intern for Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar in 2024, will be a remote investing apprentice with Sorenson Impact Institute at the University of Utah’s David Eccles Business School, for the 2025-26 school year. 

“I feel extremely privileged to have been elected to support our student body, but it is not only me,” Neira-Pinzón said. “The whole e-board team will work to take on this huge responsibility as well.”

Hialeah Campus

Maradiaga

President: Martin Maradiaga

Maradiaga is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in leadership management with a concentration in human resources. He aims to support students in their academic and mental health journeys by increasing access to school supplies and workshops. 

The 19-year-old is also a member of the Hialeah Scholars program, where he trains peer mentors and gives weekly presentations about MDC resources, and serves as a student assistant at Student Life.

“I am happy, proud and thankful for the support from other people,” Maradiaga said. “We are for the students, we represent the student body, so I am excited to start a new chapter in my life.”

Homestead Campus

Hernandez

President: Diego Hernandez

Hernandez is a political science major who seeks to increase civic engagement and student representation. He wants to host civic engagement, sustainability and mental health events and create a storytelling initiative for students to share their life experiences. 

The 17-year-old is serving as the advocacy chair for the United Nations Association of the United States Miami Chapter and has participated in the City of Homestead’s Mayor’s Youth Council.

“I’m excited for what’s ahead, and I welcome every student to be part of this journey with me,” Hernandez said. “Whether it’s through advocacy, creativity or conversation, we all have a role in shaping a better campus.”

Kendall Campus

Escandon

President: Naya Escandon

Escandon is a rising sophomore pursuing an associate degree in English. She hopes to host monthly social events to increase student engagement and foster a sense of community.

The 19-year-old works as a student assistant at the New Student Center. She also serves as a poetry editor for Miambiance, Kendall Campus’ literary arts magazine, and as a staff writer for The Reporter. This summer, Escandon, who aspires to be a lawyer, will be shadowing a real estate attorney. 

“I actually was able to find out with my friends [that I won] … and we screamed so loud that everyone at the campus Starbucks thought something happened,” Escandon said. “I truly feel so blessed and honored to take this opportunity to be a leader [at] Kendall Campus.”

Medical Campus

Boyer

President: Samuel Boyer

Boyer is a dental hygiene student who seeks to raise awareness of MDC resources and opportunities. He also wants to partner with The Idea Center, Wolfson Campus’ hub for entrepreneurship and innovation, to host workshops tailored to students’ needs.

The 20-year-old is a Rising Scholar and has worked with various departments, including academic advisement, financial aid and the Institute of Civic Engagement and Democracy. 

He’s also a founding member of the pre-dental club and is vice president of the Student American Dental Hygienists Association.

“I’m trying to get the campus on the map with other campuses as well,” Boyer said. “And just making sure that the students, the faculty, everyone gets the recognition that they deserve.”

North Campus

Garcia

President: Virnanyeli Garcia

Garcia is a biology student who hopes to foster a more inclusive community on campus through sports, festivals and flea market events.

The 20-year-old is working as an Andrew Goodman Foundation Fellow with iCED, where she is educating the community on political issues and voting rights. She’s also earned the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for completing more than 650 service hours since last spring.

“I know that I will be going through ups and downs with the role that I am about to begin,” Garcia said. “[But] ​​I feel very confident that I can bring everyone together slowly but shortly.”

West Campus

Inguanzo

President: Elani Inguanzo

Inguanzo is a rising sophomore studying political science who hopes to amplify student voices.

The 19-year-old wants to host “Pitch Your Idea,” a Shark Tank-inspired event where students present campus improvement suggestions to the SGA Executive Board. She also wants to organize Town Hall meetings with pizza and coffee for students to engage with officers in a casual setting.

“As someone who has always been ‘the outcast’ the spotlight is strange, but I’m ready to use the recognition as a platform for everyone who feels left out,” Inguanzo said.

Wolfson Campus

Korol

President: Sofiya Korol

Korol is a student in the Paralegal Studies Program. She plans to encourage students to attend the speaker panels and career fairs on campus. 

The 19-year-old has earned the Silver Civic Action Award and served on the dais at a Model United Nations conference. She also founded MDC Insider, an organization that informs students about campus events and opportunities. 

“I look forward to making good on my campaign promises,” Korol said. “I couldn’t have done it without the people who believed in and voted for me.”
