Medicare Part D Drug Plans

Medicare Part D Drug Plans

Any dentist that treats Medicare beneficiaries must either enroll in the Medicare program or opt out in order to prescribe medications to their qualifying patients with Part D drug plans, according to the Federal Government. The deadline for this is June 1st 2015, but it has been extended to January 1st 2016. By opting out you must sign an affidavit, which means that you, the dentist, are out of Medicare for 2 years and can’t receive any Medicare payment for services provided to Medicare patients, either directly or indirectly. You can opt in too, but by opting out your patients can still get reimbursed for their prescriptions since you have declared a status with Medicare. To enroll to be reimbursed for the covered services through Medicare you must complete an application, as well. If dentists don’t take action they will start seeing an impact of complaints from their patients next year, since those patients will not be getting reimbursed for their prescriptions. Don’t procrastinate, act now!
